As a country, we have become so committed to aligning with our party that we turn a blind eye to lies, corruption and hypocritical practices which further polarize our country and distract from real progress.
If we want to unite the country, we must hold our politicians (and media outlets) accountable to the high expectations of their offices:
- Be forthright and consistent in positions.
- Be transparent about wins, losses, mistakes, and outcomes (more on this in the principle "Provide a scoreboard").
- Be accountable to the same standards and expectations as the general public (this should apply to everything from COVID restrictions to financial reform and healthcare).
Our vote is one of our most powerful rights – as citizens, we must rise above simple party allegiances and use our vote to ensure we have politicians who actually live amongst us and honestly discharge the duties of their office.
